It Ain’t Always the Fastest One

A Sermon from Ecclesiastes 9:11

“I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.”

The Setup

Somebody shout GLORY up in here tonight, because I came to tell you that God works on His own timetable!

Solomon – the wisest man who ever lived – sat down one day and looked at life raw and uncut. He watched the fastest runner lose the race. He watched the strongest army fall in battle. He watched the smartest man in the room go broke. And Solomon said, “Wait a minute…”

He picked up his pen. He wrote it down. And what he wrote has been rocking God’s people ever since.

Point One – You Can Be Qualified and Still Be Waiting

I need somebody to hear this in your spirit tonight.

You have the degree. You have the experience. You have the anointing. You have the resume. And you’re still sitting in the waiting room of life wondering, “Lord, when is my time coming?”

The swift runner trained every single day. He stretched. He practiced. He showed up early and stayed late. And he still lost the race.

God wants you to understand something – your qualification prepares you for the blessing, and His timing releases it. Keep building. Keep sharpening. Keep showing up faithful. The preparation belongs to you. The timing belongs to God.

Point Two – Time and Chance Happen to Everybody

Solomon used a Hebrew word – pega – for chance. It means a divine intersection. A moment when heaven reaches down and touches earth.

Your pega moment is already scheduled in the archives of heaven! Your name is already on it. Your address is already on it. The date and time – already sealed with the blood of Jesus!

You cannot rush it. You cannot buy it. You cannot network your way to it ahead of God’s schedule. But when your pega moment arrives – every door that was locked swings wide open, every connection you need walks through the right room, every resource you require lines up like soldiers at attention!

Point Three – The Race Still Belongs to the Lord

Now I need the church to stand up for this last word!

Paul said in Philippians, “I can do all things through Christ.” David said, “The Lord is my shepherd.” And Solomon said, “Time and chance happeneth to them all.”

God uses ordinary timing to produce extraordinary outcomes. God uses the moment nobody expected to release the miracle nobody predicted. He used a shepherd boy named David when the army had professional soldiers. He used a stuttering Moses when Egypt had professional orators. He used a teenage girl named Mary when the religious system had professional priests.

Your moment is coming. Your blessing already has your name on it. Your season already has your fingerprints all over it. Stay faithful. Stay planted. Stay in position.

Because when God releases your time – baby, you won’t need to run fast. Heaven will carry you across that finish line!
