Purpose, Plan, and Potential

Somebody give God a praise right now – because I came to tell you that you did not end up in this place by accident! God had you on His mind before your mama knew your name. Before the foundation of the world, the King of kings sat down and said, “I’m going to make somebody special” – and beloved, He was talking about YOU!

I want to preach to somebody today about three P’s that will change your life. Say it with me – Purpose. Plan. Potential. These three words belong together. You cannot separate them. God wrapped them up in one package and put your name on the box!

Purpose – You Were Made On Purpose, For a Purpose!

The Apostle Paul – now he was writing from a jail cell, saints! He had chains on his wrists, guards at his door, and he picked up his pen and wrote to the church at Ephesus. He said in Ephesians 2:10 –

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

Now I need somebody to catch what Paul just said. He said we are God’s handiwork! In the Greek, that word is poiema – it means God’s masterpiece! God’s poem! God took His time on you! He did not rush you off the assembly line. He handcrafted you, shaped you, molded you – and then He breathed life into you and said, “This one is mine.”

Your purpose – child of God – your purpose runs deeper than your job title. Your purpose runs deeper than your zip code. Your purpose runs deeper than your past mistakes. God ordained your purpose before you ever made your first mistake! He wrote your assignment in Heaven before you ever showed up on earth!

I need somebody in here to grab hold of this truth: your life carries divine significance. The enemy wants you walking around feeling worthless, feeling overlooked, feeling like you don’t matter. The enemy is a liar and the truth is not in him! God says you matter. God says you were made on purpose. God says you carry an assignment that nobody else on this earth can carry!

Plan – God’s GPS Never Loses the Signal!

Now Purpose tells you the what – but Plan tells you the how. Proverbs 16:9 says:

“In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.”

I love this verse because God does not dismiss the fact that we make plans. He knows we sit down with our notebooks, our vision boards, our five-year goals. God says – go ahead and plan! Write the vision, make it plain! But then He says – I establish the steps.

Let me tell you something about God’s plan. God sees the end from the beginning. When you are sitting in the middle of a detour that you did not ask for – when the job fell through, when the relationship ended, when the diagnosis came back with bad news – God never lost the route. His GPS never loses signal. He already built your detours into the original plan!

Some of you went through a season that felt like God had forgotten about you. You cried out at midnight and Heaven felt like brass. I came to tell you – God was working on your behalf in the very season you felt most alone! The plan never stopped. God just took you on a road you could not see on the map!

Potential – The Power Is Already Inside You!

Peter – a fisherman from Galilee, a man who denied Jesus three times – this same Peter stood up on the Day of Pentecost and preached a sermon that saved three thousand souls in one day! What happened? The Holy Ghost showed up and Peter’s potential exploded!

First Peter 4:10 declares:

“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”

God already deposited the gift inside you! The anointing is already in the house! The calling is already on your life! Some of you are sitting on gifts that the Kingdom of God is waiting on. The community needs what God put in you. The next generation needs what God put in you.

The Holy Ghost does not call the equipped – He equips the called! Your potential activates when you surrender to the Spirit and step out in faith. Stop waiting until you feel ready. Step out and watch God show up!

The Three Work Together – They Always Have!

Here is what God showed me when He gave me this word:

Purpose informs the Plan. When you know what you were made to do, you gain the wisdom to walk in the direction God prepared. Your plans align with Heaven’s agenda.

The Plan cultivates Potential. As you follow the path God lays before you, He develops gifts in you that you did not even know you carried. The walk of obedience builds the anointing on your life.

Potential fulfills Purpose. When the Holy Spirit activates what God deposited in you, you become fully equipped to do everything God sent you to earth to accomplish. The cycle feeds itself, and the glory goes back to God!

Conclusion – Walk Into Your Full Assignment!

Church, I close with this. Purpose, Plan, and Potential – God wove them together like a three-strand cord, and a three-strand cord does not break!

Your purpose calls you forward. God’s plan holds you steady. Your Spirit-filled potential carries you through.

This is your year to walk fully into your assignment. Pray without ceasing. Saturate yourself in the Word. Lock arms with the body of Christ. And when the enemy tells you that you have missed your moment – remind him that God’s gifts and callings are without repentance!

Somebody in this house still has a word to preach, a business to build, a child to raise up, a community to serve, a generation to reach! Your time has not passed – your time is NOW!

Give God glory, somebody. Give Him glory – because your best days walk right in front of you!

To God be the glory – great things He has done.
